Official AMV Distribution Center - Online

Post by Red Wolf » Sat Oct 12, 2002 6:59 pm

AbsoluteDestiny approached me after AWA remarking on all the great AMV CDs he collected while at the con and how great it would be if those and many other AMV CDs were available to everyone. So after much talking and planning we are now ready to announce the opening of the new AMV Distribution Center.

Distribution is done by fans sending in blank CDs and postage to the distribution center and exact copies of the CDs they wish to have are made and sent back to them. Since the CDs sent in by AMV creators are only copied creators are able to control all creative aspects of their CDs. Because people send us everything we need (the CDs, addressed envelope, and postage) there is no need or requirement for money.

The AMV Distribution Center is currently in Phase I of set up. We are gaining the permission of the creators of various AMV CDs already owned and we are accepting CDs from anyone wishing to send them in. Once we have a number of AMV CDs to distribute available and cataloged then we will go to Phase II which will allow for full distribution of AMV CDs to begin.

Any AMV creators wishing to add their own CDs to the distribution list should visit http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/Distro/submit.html or contact me via email at red_wolf@mac.com or on AIM (S/N redwolfamv). If you gave out CDs at AWA this year contact me, I may already have your CD.

For more information on the AMV Distribution Center, including how to submit your own work to the center and updates on when we will be going to Phase II, please visit http://homepage.mac.com/red_wolf/Distro (and forgive the rough nature of the site).

This is a great idea and it has lots of potential.

I have a question though, "Can I request a DVD burn if I want to?" No reason what'soever right now why except that DVD's can be played on DVD players.

Or do I have to burn it to DVD instead?

The distribution center (AKA me) current doesn't have the means to copy or burn DVDs. Data CDs or VCDs will be the only format accepted or distributed.

Please visit the site and go through its contents before you post a question here. Thank you.

BTW can we enforce a NO low quality rms and wmvs rule -_-

Whether the CD is a data CD or VCD is up to the creator. If they submit a VCD, I copy it as a VCD. If they submit it as a data CD, I copy it as a data CD. I will not make any changes to the CD since we want the creaotrs to have full creative control.

No. The site does suggest that people use a higher quality codec such as MPEG or DivX but I will accept what they send. The catalog will list the file formats found on the CD so you can avoid the lower formats if you wish. Hopefully seeing that the lower quality formats do not get requested as often will induce people to make a better CD but it will not be an enforced rule.

Note: I am updating the site's FAQ with each post on here so be sure to check there for more details on these questions. If you see a question missing shoot me an email.

Now Taking Requests: I have the catalog up and running (long weekend). The Distribution Center is now taking requests for CDs we have available for distribution. Please keep in mind that I have even more AMV CDs coming in and I'm still waiting for permission from a few groups I have CDs for *cough DDR cough* so check the catalog on a regular basis for updates. Naturally you can request as many or as few CDs as often as you wish so feel free to go nuts now, wait a week or two, and go nuts again.

Opinions Wanted: I am looking for opinions on the web site. Not on the appearance (I know it is crap, what do you expect for a few days work :P) but on the content. I am especially interested in opinions on the catalog layout and information and how easily everyone is understanding the request format. Thoughts, suggestions, and rude comments are all welcome. Please do not post them here, however. Email me at red_wolf@mac.com.

Webmaster Wanted: I put up a web site and I'm good with content but I don't have the skills to make it pretty nor the time to learn how to make it pretty. So I'm entertaining the idea of bringing on someone with better web skills to help us out with a nice, pretty remake of the current site. Naturally this would be payless and mostly thankless job (I will say thank you) but you could always use the finished site as an example of your work (in case you ever want a real web job). If you're interested email me (don't post) at red_wolf@mac.com and present me with some ideas and well as links to your previous work.

Should I start redirecting DDR VCD requests to you?

Not to scare you, but I can't wait to get it out of my hands. The other night, I got home from work and immediately started burning CDs. Eventually, I was too tired and had to go to bed. I'm still behind on burning. :?
I have no idea how to use this new forum.
