Interested in broadcasting AMV
Hi All -
I am brand new to the world of Anime, know nothing about it and need your help. I currently work for a music video channel which broadcasts all over the world and we have had many requests as of late to feature anime music videos. I am interested in trying to do this.
But I need your help! I have gotten a few lists of some of the most popular Anime movies, but I am at a loss about music videos. I understand many fans create their own music videos, but I also know that movie studios and record labels also create them and add them onto the DVD package release.
I would like any help anyone could give me on some of the more popular tracks, movies, and even current music videos available today. Please let me know about other websites... anything! Also, the channel I work for has the capabilities to create music videos and submit them for approval, so if you think there is one that should be made and aired, please let me know about that too!
Please reply with some help! It would be much appreciated!

Re: Interested in broadcasting AMV
I know this will come up, so...I don't think this is legal. You must realize that us making Music Videos is already very grey in that we use a company's footage and another artist's music and meld them together. If you were to broadcast them, all you'd do is get the community in trouble.Marisak20 wrote:Hi All -

So yeah, I don't think this is even remotely legal.

Hey good point.
Actually, it is legal as long as the movie studio approves it for each territory we broadcast in. We've been around for a while, and have been creating our own, original music videos for some time. Most of the time what we do is used pre-approved footage given to us by the movie studio, and the record label picks a track they want us to use for the video.
As long as it is approved, we have no problem. The video is seem as promotional material that the movie studio uses to promote the release of a movie, or its DVD release and the record label uses to to promote their soundtrack.
Thanks!

Well this is a bit harder in that most of our videos are music that I'm sure the RIAA would LOVE to nail people with. Same with footage in that there are tons of distributors in the states. They currently ignore us, but if it were to be broadcasted to a large number of people, that would probably start something that I am positve the community does not want.Marisak20 wrote:Hey good point.

I understand your concern.... but I've actually been in contact with a lot of the distributors of anime films and we are actually working on different licensing agreements with them so that some popular videos can be broadcast and viewed by a whole new community. Both movie studios and record labels understand that anime is growing in popularity (and of course are interested in ways they can make money). Because of the large amount of requests that we have had by our viewers, I was interested in looking into this topic with experts.
Maybe you can help me this way instead. I'll start by looking for pre-approved music videos... for example, I know there are two videos on Cowboy Bebop. They are included on the DVD. Can you help me find others like this?

Ah well stuff like the music videos on the DVD can obviously be approved by the distributor and wouldn't effect us in the slightest. The main reason is b/c they are created BY the distributor (well they hire someone).Marisak20 wrote:I understand your concern.... but I've actually been in contact with a lot of the distributors of anime films and we are actually working on different licensing agreements with them so that some popular videos can be broadcast and viewed by a whole new community. As for more, I believe the Escaflowne DVD 8 has a few. I think the Crest of Stars also has some (I think Vlad or Scott did those).
Now back to the topic of videos listed here (fan-created), I guess if given permission by the recording industry and the anime distributors would be enough. I would believe the anime distributors approving it since it's free advertising, but the recording industry? With the given sentiments from the RIAA lately, I highly doubt it. I might also add that not all AMVs listed here are created with legally obtained footage (DVDs or tapes we own) or legally obtained music (CDs we own). I know quite a few that use Mp3's or downloaded footage.
Not that I condone that, but to show even one of those videos could bring the wrath of the RIAA upon us. You gotta be careful whose videos you show if at all.
Again with professionally made videos from the studio, that is entirely different.
