*Spoilers* up to episode 134
This is a Sasuke profile vid that I spent the last three months making. I was very perfectionist with it, and it's probably the video that I put the most effort into so far. So even though it's a Naruto vid, hopefully you'll give it a chance. ;)
Concept/Storyline:
Since this is a drama video, I tried to make the concept as solid as possible and to keep the storyline centered. Typically for a Sasuke profile, the video is centered around Sasuke and his conflict with his brother, Itachi. Although this concept has been done several times before, I was disappointed with a lot of the videos I saw with this theme, and with a lot of the videos about Sasuke in general, and I wanted to give this character a good profile AMV. ;) I used scenes from all of the seasons of Naruto that are out at this point (since I like it much better when videos don't just use scenes from a few episodes) so there's a pretty wide variety of Sasuke scenes that I used.
I actually wanted to use this song for an AMV a long time ago, but I couldn't think of any anime that suited it. After watching Naruto (the anime that goes with practically any song), I thought about making a Sasuke AMV, and I was reminded of this song. I listened to it, and I thought the lyrics suited Sasuke very well. I could picture the video pretty easily, so I planned the video for about two weeks then started editing.
The Editing:
I made sure to use RAWs in this video rather than the subbed episodes so that it would be both subtitle-less and fullscreen (although I did use the subs of a couple episodes if the raws for it were really bad quality--but I made sure to use no scenes with subs).
I tried to pay a lot of attention to pacing in this video, along with paying attention to which parts of the song needed accented, and, of course, to beat syncing. A large chunk of the hours I spent on this video went into tweaking the timing, the flow, and the effects. I think my perfectionist attitude paid off, because I'm pretty happy with my syncing in this video.
The Effects:
I put a lot of work into the effects in this video. There's quite a bit of frame-by-frame editing (especially in the beginning), which I did to make cut-outs and delete backgrounds (a.k.a. super-imposing or masking), to make sure that characters' mouths didn't move at certain parts, to paint over credits in scenes from the openings, and just to add in a couple things for an extra touch. I also used luminance transparencies combined with various kinds of blurs, the diffuse glow effect, some black and white, some more blurs, brightness and contrast settings, a little bit of noise... I tried very hard to make sure no tacky, jerky, or ugly effects went into this video.
The Lyrics:
For so long my life’s been sewn up tight inside your hold
And it leaves me there without a place to call my own
I know now what shadows can see
There’s no point in running ‘less you run with me
It’s half the distance through the open door
Before you cut me down
Again
Let me introduce you to the end
And I feel the cold wind blowing beneath my wings
It always leads me back to suffering
But I will soar until the wind whips me down
Leaves me beaten on unholy ground again
So tired now of paying my dues
I start out strong but then I always lose
It’s half the distance before you leave me behind
It’s such a waste of time
Chorus
‘Cause my shackles you won’t be
And my rapture you won’t believe
And deep inside you will bleed for me
So here I slave inside of a broken dream
Forever holding on to splitting seams
So take your piece and leave me alone to die
I don’t need you to keep my faith alive
I know now what trouble can be
And why it follows me so easily
It’s half the distance through the open door
Before you shut me down again
Let me introduce you to the end
Chorus
Though you know you care
Chorus
And my laughter you won’t hear
The faster I disappear
And time will burn your eyes

Update: August 10, 2006
I uploaded a higher-quality version to the local link. I also decided to cut out the twenty-second intro to the video, since I thought it was a bit annoying to have to watch over and over.
