  • Comments: This was the video I made in my third AMV Iron Chef Contest at AWA 9 in September of 2003. My opponent was none other than Ian Roberts (AbsoluteDestiny).

The theme for that year's competition was "flight", and as AWA approached, I still didn't really have a good idea of what song I was going to use. Zabet of More Than Toast sent me this cover of R. Kelly's cheesy ballad, and at first I thought she was joking when she suggested that I use it...and then I realized that it actually WOULD work really well. It was a fun song, which would go over well with audiences, and it would be an easy song to edit to. I had to cut it down a bit, and if you're familiar with the full length version, it probably sounds a bit jarring. Still, both the audience and the judges enjoyed the video...Ian's was equally as good and well-received, but the judges had to choose a winner, and it ended up being me by a more or less arbitrary choice.

I actually had a lot of fun editing this video. Despite the stress of being onstage, once I got into the actual editing, I was pretty relaxed. The main difficulty in editing this video was that I was using Premiere Pro for the first time, and I was definitely not used to the new rubber band system. I think it turned out okay, though if I had had more time, I definitely would have tightened some of the edits...though I guess that's true for anyone who's ever done an Iron Chef video.

The Secret Ingredient for the contest was an animated film from 1986 called The Flight of Dragons, which I had never heard of before.
