Comments:
And here it is, after several months of work, my first "real" AMV.
The idea had been in my head for a good year and a half, I wanted to create something to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the release of Astro Boy at the dawn of the year 1963, the consensual birth point of "modern" animation as we know it today. Not being able to draw, the idea of an AMV came quite naturally.
I also didn't look very far for the concept of my video, I wanted to use the retrospective model that Amo had made for the introduction of the AMV Céleste (http://neantvert.eu/celeste), but this time by using the whole of a song in order to fit a max of various anime to represent 6 decades of series and movies (by the way the project file was created the day after the Beta release). The only thing left was the choice of the song and... here too I took the one from the AMV Céleste. I thought about it for a long time but like my predecessor, I couldn't find a better musical choice than The Greatest Show to represent a "show" video as well. In the end, I'm a little angry at myself for not having looked for another song. I have the unpleasant feeling to have just "copied" an idea already done before, especially since a few months later I will have the idea (which would have made the AMV even more complicated to edit) of the music "Outro" of M83. But the project was already too far advanced for me to start from scratch. I hope Amo won't be too angry with me for that ahah.
Although I had already edited a few animes on music for AMV Enfer / AMV Céleste, the task was huge because we are talking about 60 years of animation to try to fit in a 5 minutes video. A big sorting had to be done after a first selection of about 650 animes scoured on MyAnimeList. The hardest part was the very beginning of the editing: I had to start a little bit blindly before having a vision of how many anime I can put in such place, how to distribute fairly such period, such decade. It was then much easier to place my chosen excerpts once I started to have a little skeleton of an edit (i.e. a few "marker" animes already placed in the middle of the video and in a few places where I WANTED the music to be played on a specific shot).
With a little less than a year to go before the deadline, I had already almost finished the first edit. While waiting for the year 2022 to pass to place new anime, I took the opportunity to start replacing the many 480p cuts I got from Sakugabooru, in Blu-Ray quality (or DVD for some old stuff).
[Used anime]
215 anime from January 1963 to November 2022

The video contains in particular:
- 6 works of the studio Gainax
- 3 works of the studio Trigger
- 4 works of SHAFT
- 8 series from Kyoto Animation
- 3 works by Masaki Yuasa
- 2 movies by Makoto Shinkai
- 1 movie by Mamoru Hosoda
- 1 movie by Satoshi Kon
- 1 Ghibli
- 3 independent works
[Constraints imposed]
- At least 1 anime for each year, since 1963.
- Use as much as possible the first iteration/season of an anime if there are several. This is for historical reasons but also because it would have been more difficult to put JoJo Stone Ocean in 2021 when I could put the first OVA in a year with less new stuff (and less anime in general).
- If possible, use the most memorable / famous scenes, while keeping some coherence between them.
- Try as much as possible to put the anime in the chronological order of release (of the 1st episode, or of the movie).
- One and only one shot for each anime. Can you find the only anime (except Astro Boy) which deviates from this rule? It's difficult to find because the split between the 2 shots is almost invisible (and there is also a mirror clip).
