Comments:
Runaway Anime is a project that I've been working on ever since I began making AMV's.
Back in the 1990's, there was a song called "Runaway Train", which was about the subject of kids who've gone missing after they ran away from home. The music video for the song is accompanied by images of various kids who were missing at the time of its creation, with the video leading to a few of them eventually being found and reunited with their families. Obviously, the music video's concept is ripe for parody, and a decade later, someone at YTMND did one involving some of the more popular memes on the site (i.e. an image of Darth Vader's yell from Revenge of the Sith being followed by a caption of how "Yes" has been missing since 2005). A fan of that spoof, it inspired me to do create an anime version of it, with initial work on it starting in 2015.
In terms of the subject matter, I wanted the video's humor to have a little something for everyone, whether it's longtime anime fans, those who are only familiar with the Weekly Shounen/Toonami titles, people familiar with various anime memes, the AMV community, or just me.
The initial version of the video was created for the 2021 AWA Pro Contest. However, I did feel that there was some parts that needed to be changed (especially a couple of elements that would only make sense to those that taken part in past Pro Contests). Considering some of the business that I be it real life or AMV making (i.e. fixing up Chasing the Dragon based on the feedback I got at AWA Pro, working on Happatai Daioh and segments for Rejected AMV's 3), it took months before I can come up with an "official" version of this video (although I did post the AWA Pro version on Youtube for those people looking to see the entries for that contest).
