(....if only this video, subtitled "Sylvia", or "I Didn't Actually Steal His Watch", was half as pretentious as that! It's actually a very simple one-scene video made for a quick-editing challenge. I still like it though!)

    Good evening elitist hippie bastards,

This is my take on a private Iron Chef challenge (also known as Elitist Bastards IC or EBIC) between me and jasper-isis on 26-28 May 2007. We agreed on a music track, which was Jakob Givoni's "Raindrops Won't Kill You", an intro to a self-published album of his that was freely available on his website (and is, unfortunately, no longer online). I'm sure we bent a few Iron Chef rules while editing, and we had a bit longer to work than most competitions, but hey, it was really intended to just be a fun activity between friends!

I very quickly ran into a lack of footage, which disappointed me a little; Gankutsuou was literally the only choice I could think of anything for. Fortunately, I think it turned out quite well. For something that uses basically one scene from the anime, especially.

I did this in about 6-7 hours of editing; the final version went through another hour of final tweaks and fixes.

Being Elitist Bastards as we were, we got the .org Donators Forum members to vote and gave them codenames - this one was "Sylvia" (Jasper's was "Madison"). As it turned out, both videos got an equal amount of votes and the Iron Chef ended a glorious draw. Most people said it was a tough call and people liked both (to be honest, I wish Jasper had won >__> ).

You can find Jasper's take on it here.
And an Alternate Dimensions -style comparison of our entries can be found here (thanks Ileia for the hosting!)

"Heropass" is a Gurdjieffian term for a certain concept of time. If you're actually wondering WTF, read more below!

    Thanks for watching!

    HEROPASS

The problem of Time, which is called the Merciless Heropass in Beelzebub's Tales, is the reason that The Endlessness Creator created our Universe.

"Thereupon our Endlessness became thoughtful, for in His Divine deliberations He became clearly aware that if this Heropass should so continue to diminish the volume of the Sun Absolute, then sooner or later, it would ultimately bring about the complete destruction of this sole place of His Being." (42)

Time in itself does not exist; there is only the totality of the results ensuing from all the cosmic phenomena present in a given place.

Time itself, no being can either understand by reason or sense by any outer or inner being-function. It cannot even be sensed by any gradation of instinct which arise and is present in every more or less independent cosmic concentration.

It is possible to judge Time only if one compares real cosmic phenomena which proceeds in the same place and under the same conditions, where Time is being constated and considered.

It is necessary to notice that in the Great Universe all phenomena in general without exception wherever they arise and manifest, are simply successively law-conformable 'Fractions' of some whole phenomenon which has its prime arising on the Most Holy Sun Absolute.

And in consequence, all cosmic phenomena, wherever they proceed, have a sense of objectivity.

And these successively law-conformable 'Fractions' are actualized in every respect, and even in the sense of the involution and evolution, owing to the chief cosmic law, the sacred Heptaparaparshinokh.

Only Time alone has no sense of objectivity, because it is not the result of the fractioning of any definite cosmic phenomena. And it does not issue from anything but blends away with everything and becomes self-sufficiently independent; therefore, in the whole of the Universe, it alone can be called and extolled as the Ideally-Unique-Subjective-Phenomenon.

Thus, my boy, uniquely Time alone or, as it is sometimes called, the Heropass, has no source from which its arising should depend. But like Divine-Love flows always, as I have already told you, independently by itself, and blends proportionately with all the phenomena present in the given place and in the given arising of our Great Universe. "People like us, who believe in physics, know that the distinction between past, present and future is only a stubbornly persistent illusion." (Einstein)

As I said, I edited it in about 6-7 hours. It was more or less an experiment, but I learned lots, especially about overlays. Was quite fun!
